about

Sword Fearn’s (my) debut single, "Hero’s Journey,” is a song about forging your own path. Verses wink at the pulpy fantasies of my youth. The chorus roles its eyes at my escapist daydreams. It's a joke at my expense. It's a road trip song. It's a one eyed wizard revenge tale where the bastard hero gets the girl and learns to make his own way in life.

The single was recorded on a single dinky podcast mic and retains the raw room sound of an upstairs bedroom. Sort of a a DIY experiment.

lyrics

Tunnel miles beneath the earth
On a drill made on mars
And when we reach the core
There be dinosaurs and more

Slay the Lizard King and save the damsel
Conquer evil for a grateful people

Your whole life you wanted to
Feast your eyes on something new
But your life ain't on that pallid page
The world is out there in the green and blue

Learn to use your father's sword
You were born to save the world
Track him down and get revenge (he killed my father)
One-Eyed Wizard meet your end

Bed the princess and befriend a giant
Ride a dragon and dethrone a tyrant

Your whole life you wanted to
Feast your eyes on something truly new
Put your life down on that pallid page
The world is out there in the green and blue

Red towers pierce the sky
Crowned in green the Gods abide
Rugged coast of broken stone
Subtle curve of a blue unknown

Those fabled lands you went at night
Are all inside, inside your mind
This wet rock has more to give
Take a ride on that tide

I wanna be my own hero
I wanna fear my own evil
And when I reach the end of the road
I am sure this loneliness will end
I'll drink myself distilled
Great pain with a smile
I am alive
